Pond heater with waterproof heating cable

Heating cable in special robust design, apply to the bottom of the pond. With this form of pond heating, all heat is used to heat the water. Here there is no energy loss.

The waterproof cable for pond heating has a high power of 30 watts per meter length. The required power is difficult to calculate in advance because it depends on many variables: size, proportions, insulation, flow, outside temperature, wind, precipitation, etc. It is a misconception that high power costs a lot of energy because all the heat generated benefits the water. With a matching control, the heater will not turn on above the set temperature.

Pond heating tips

Provide enough space between the loops of the cable so that the heat can spread properly over the surface of the pond (or of the area you want to heat). Feel free to cover the robust, stiff heating cable, for example with pebbles or gravel.

Tip: With plastic omega strip, make loops, as shown in the picture. Cut the strips to the desired length for a "customized heating mat" that lies on the bottom of the pond. Required per m²: approx. 4 strips of 1 meter. You can weight the strips with stones, or otherwise secure them to the bottom. It is also possible to use wire mesh or rebar for securing the cable.

To avoid excessive temperature and unnecessary energy consumption, we recommend the matching Temperature Controller. This switches the heater on automatically, but only below the temperature you set yourself. Extending the connecting cable of the matching waterproof temperature sensor is easy. Sometimes this is necessary to accommodate the controller indoors. With a temperature control, the heater is thus only on when the water is colder than the temperature you set yourself: e.g. +3 °C for frost-free keeping, or a higher value for tropical fish.

For keeping filters, pumps and pipes frost-free, we recommend self-regulating heating ribbons. This is a self-regulating type of heat cable, which cannot get too hot. As a heating ribbon, it is therefore also safe for keeping PVC pipes and plastic tanks frost-free.
